Selecting The Right Material For Your Sex Toys

Sex toys today are made from a bewildering array of materials, some of which you may not have even considered before. Nevertheless, there are a few tried and proven materials for sex toys that have stood the test of time, and silicone and jelly are only two of the most popular ones. Below we go into the details of each.

Silicone

This is a very popular choice of material for many sex toys, since it can have a very realistic consistency, with a soft and smooth feel. Silicone also tends to warm up to body temperature fairly quickly, making for a more authentic sensation. Most silicone sex toys are also made so that they don’t have any hard or rough edges, and the feel is remarkably similar to that of human skin.

A further advantage to silicone sex toys is that they are non-porous, so they can be cleaned quite easily. All you have to do is use soap and water in most cases, and there is virtually no risk of any allergic reaction.

There is one drawback to silicone sex toys however, and that is they tend to be a bit more expensive than sex toys that are made of rubber or jelly. That being said, they do tend to last a lot longer too, so the extra cost may just be well worth it.

Jelly

Jelly toys can work quite well too, and they have the advantage of being half the price of silicone sex toys. Of course they are not quite as smooth or as realistic as silicone based sex toys, but that doesn’t mean that they are any less pleasurable. One thing that you will want to use with jelly based sex toys is lubrication, preferably water based and a lot of it.

Jelly sex toys are often available in bright colors, with a thick and flexible design that isn’t quite as supple as silicone sex toys. This causes some of these types of sex toys to stick to the skin.

One other thing you will to deal with is the smell. Many jelly sex toys have a sort of plastic smell, which may be a bit off-putting if you are sensitive to odors. Jelly sex toys also don’t hold up well to soap or boiling water, so you will to be gentle when cleaning them. Unfortunately this means that jelly sex toys aren’t suitable for shared use, but the good news is that they are quite inexpensive, so you and your partner can simply buy one each for your own uses.
